Being Innovative and Using Local Resources to Achieve Great Success
Karen Justice is a Byron Bay local of 36 years. She went to Mullumbimby High School and trained as a registered nurse at the Lismore Base Hospital. After 22 years of nursing, she had a mini midlife crisis and joined the Pet Industry, first as a retailer, then as a manager of a pet industry buying group consisting of independent pet retailers across Australia.
When Karen purchased the group in 2009, now known as Just For Pets, within a very few weeks, she realised she has bought a “real lemon”, but after such a huge investment, knew she had to find a way for it to work. 5 years on, Just For Pets is the largest Pet Industry Buying Group in Australia with a group of stores that has the second largest sales turnover of any retail pet group in the country. She thrives on hard work and long hours, but this alone, would never have got her to where she is today. Karen believes her decision to join Byron and Beyond Networking Group has taken her business to a level that she could only have dreamed of being innovative and using the local resources to achieve that. The people that she has meet, and now works with very closely, has taken her group to the fore of the Australian Pet Industry.
